Do I have enough filter power?

Hi gang! I am in the process of cycling a new 40 gallon freshwater tank, can't wait for it to be ready!

I am worried about having the right amount of filtration though once it comes time to add fish. I have a marineland biowheel 150 and a sponge filter advertised for "up to 40 gallons".

Will this be enough filtration for when I start adding fish? I was planning to likely stock on the heavier side as opposed to light, obviously very gradually. I have live plants as well.

Let me know what you think if this is enough filter power. Thanks!

Alot depends on the fish you are stocking. Personally I tend to "overfilter" so I would be putting 2 of th filter that is one step below this one with the sponge filter. I *believe* you want a GPH 5 times the water in the aquarium since the numbers given on the box are for a filter running *empty* so no sponges etc. I am not a fan of bio wheels as I find they have a 50/50 chance of just stopping rotating for NO apparent reason.
