evaluate this please

I had a 10g tank for a sump in my 40g SW a few years ago, it was a nightmare, the only way I'll ever have a sump that small again is if I set up an automatic top-off system.

Bigger the sump the better IMO and the less you'll have to mess with it.
 
There is really no right size, bigger is better IMO, but at the very least you need you make you sump/fuge big enough to house your skimmer, pump, and macro algae or mangroves + if you want LR and possibly LS in there.

Just measure your available space, and build the biggest tank you can fit in there. Just make sure you can actually get in the stand.
