filter pads

i have had tank running for 5 weeks now could you tell me how to clean the filter pads /filters ,i have one, aqua one marisys and one fluval 340 canister do i just rinse the filter pads in the water taken from the tank or do i replace these filters with new, and should i clean any other parts of the filter boxes and do i do this every time i do a part water change

It really depends on bioload and what filter media you are using.
I do rinse out my media (purigen) and ceramic rings in old SW when I do a PWC to preserve the biofilter.
You Fluvial is a 304 not a 340 right? I took the sponges out of mine and only run the ceramic rings and purigen (when needed).
