Fixing a sump pump

I didn't get a chance to try the pump that way (plugged directly into the wall) until tonight. Neither pump showed any sign of life at this point. I'm taking the new one back to the store to hopefully exchange it, I'll get my money back at the very least. I'll probably keep the old one around just for the impeller and the cover, since I know that's brand new.

After three separate Mag 12 pumps have failed after 48 hours or less in this setup, and my crappy "QuietOne" backup pump has been running like a champ, I've decided that as much as I thought I liked Mag 12, I'm not going to deal with it anymore. I don't know what could be wrong, I tried plugging it directly into the wall, but it's not working. I'll be starting a new thread shortly to see if there are other pumps that people here find reliable. Thanks for all the help everybody.
