Fluval FX6

Hi, all
Would the polishing pad go on the 1st aka top center filter. I'm adding the blue filter and polishing filter. I just don't know where they go.

[QUOTE=Aiken[/QUOTE] Ok, so the very bottom outer ring is Eheim Mech. (Directly after entering the filtration cycle, water is swirled through the hollow ceramic rings. Larger dirt particles thus sink to the bottom. The treated prefiltered water then continues its way through the other filter layers). The top is two course bio foam, then fine max clear, then water polish quick clear, followed by the center top with Eheim MechPro (Prefilter material also for trapping small dirt particles and biological conditioning. The spiral shape ensures the trapping of even small dirt particles. The high-quality, completely water-neutral plastic allows easy and residue-free cleaning. Yet the surface structure enables the colonization of cleaning bacteria and, therefore, also provides a biological cleaning process). Then the bottom, top tray is Eheim BioMech (dirt-trapping pockets capture and retain large and small dirt particles. At the same time, the subtly designed pore structure provides colonization for the purification bacteria and thus ensures reliable biological decomposition.). Then the bottom is Eheim SubstratPro, and then the very bottom inner ring is Chemie Pure Green.

That all looks over complicated to me. All you need is layers of mechanical filtration (sponge) going from course to fine. Then biological (ceramic rings, matrix, biohome, whatever you choose).

You only need chemical media if you are dealing with a problem, and then stop using it. So that chemie pure green probably isnt going to do anything useful, it will need replacing every 2 to 4 weeks which is going to be expensive. Its basically carbon, which will remove tannins and medication. Are you having a problem with tannins? Have you been medicating the tank and now need something to remove the medication? If not you dont need this.

Personally i would set up the filter exactly as richard has in the video, but use whatever biomedia you prefer in lieu of the biohome. All those different products are just complicating everything.

Your proposed set up will work, but no better than a much simplified set up.

I Medica when adding new fish. I watched that video and changed my a bit. I was able to add an additional 1.5 L of biological media. I added pictures of how it's set up. Attachment 325125Attachment 325126Click image for larger version
