Does anybody know if it is necessary to sit the tank on polystyrene to stop the base of the tank from cracking? Fluval say that you don't but iv had experience of bases cracking thru not sitting them on polystyrene

I believe that's only needed if the surface the tank is sitting in is uneven, warped or otherwise bumpy. I've also heard that it helps keep the water temperature more stable, but I can't back that up with any personal experience.
