I have a fluval 80 gallon bent glass tank. It had a glass center piece connecting the front and back panels. It was about 3 1/2 inches wide in the center of the tank and attached to either side with silicone. My husband was cleaning the glass and it fell off! Is our tank going to be in trouble! Did that center piece serve some purpose?! Please help we are a little scared! Thanks!

It sounds like that piece is a brace. You should drain most of the water, clean off the old silicone, and reinstall the brace with new silicone. Manufacturers don't like to add extra pieces, so that brace is probably important to your tank's structure.
