Has anyone cut the Eshopps filter hose?

I purchased an eshopps filter hose to build my tank with. It is a little over 2' long and I only need about 14" to prevent a drop in my hose. These are premanufactured with 1" slip PVC on each end. Has anyone tried cutting these to make the right size and then gluing a new 1" piece of pvc into the hose?
