Heater

I have a 5 gallon acrylic and 10g glass tanks. Both have a Tetra 50 watt heater yet the 10 g is warmer. Is this because of the glass? The 5 gallon is around 72/74...I don't think it's warm enough for the Betta that is going to live there but I don't want to overdo it. Also, I already exchanged it thinking it was defective but only maybe a degree or two warmer than the last.
