Help /w reef octopus bh1000

I have a reef octopus bh1000. The skimmer doesn't seem to prime correctly I'm looking for some tips and tricks to priming it the right way. I also cannot get the water level to raise high enough and this might be because if improper primping. However the skimmer is very loud. Looking for some helpful information about this skimmer to help me improve it's quality.
