HOB refugium or HOB protien skimmer?

I only have room for 1 and a sump is not possible. Which is more beneficial to a fish with reef tank? Thanks.

If your gonna keep a reef I would go with a skimmer before a refugium. I think you'd see more of a direct result with it.

The skimmer will remove organics from your tank, mine produces a nasty thick green goo which if you think about it is IN the tank. LOL

The refugium will allow you to grow out some pods and keep macro algae which can help with nitrates.

That's my simple way of looking at it.

Ok so I have read both those articles and I think that a reef would definitely benefit more from a skimmer.

I have both but I if I had to choose one I would go with the skimmer also.
