How good are fluidized bed filters

I was wanting any advice regarding fluidized bed filters. Can they be used alone with a pre filter or are they best used in conjunction with another type of filter? The type I was looking at is the Quiksand mini. I am considering using it in a 80 litre tank with fresh water tropical community fish.

I wouldn't worry about them. On that size tank there are many HOB and even canister options that will provide more than enough surface area for nitrifying bacteria.
