how much carbon

how much carbon should i put in my canister filter for only a 30 gallon. I usually put about half of the container of Kent Reef Carbon, but i feel this is too much as i read that only a few tablespoons every few weeks is good enough.

TIA

P-MAN

oh yeah, and i also wanted to ask about my torch coral. I found a good sized pod in the tentacles this morning. Could the torch coral have caught the pod, eaten it, and expelled its exoskeleton?
