how often to clean a skimmer

my ? is do i need to clean my skimmer if i'm using the over flow valve in the collection cup tp drain into a jug or should the cup get cleaned so often and or the whole skimmer of what i red skimmers work best when dirty the break in period is for it to dirty up right..

Mine performs better when it is cleaned. I clean the collection cup and the neck about twice a week. Your milage may vary.

Def need to scrub out at least the collection tube. So much gunk gets in there it prevents it from max efficiency. I have an older CPR bak pak and I dump it probably 2 - 3 times/week but clean it bout once a week.

Either I don't have as much bioload or my skimmer is just a lot bigger than I need (A Red Sea Berline Classic on a 33g) but only clean it about every 2-3 weeks. Its gets quite a bit out but its a huge collection cup so doesn't bother me to let it fill a little extra...
