How to replace light fixture on eclipse 5gal hood?

pictures for reference: Aquarium Repair Gallery

I have a Marineland Eclipse Corner 5 aquarium. Recently when I took the unit out of storage I discovered the light fixture was no longer working.

I tried sliding a thin metallic separation tool through the tight seam on the fixture/hood housing (as pictured above) but wasn't getting any separation.

I wanted to see if anyone here had any experience with this task. I am blindly guessing I just need to apply even more force but I wanted to see if there was a "right way" to handle it as to not damage anything.

Thanks for your time!
