I am seeing using a glass canopy is best to reduce evaporation, and to seperate the lighting from water when you have a light fixture above a tank. I'm not sure if its required, because I red that on a fish shop website. The issue is if I have to use a glass canopy I am unable to fit my protein skimmer, there is usually 9 1/2" of glass, with 2" of plastic. My protein skimmers intake and output are about 2 1/2" to 3" past. Which would require cutting the glass. Any resolution to this?

I always try to discourage use of a glass cover because it traps heat in the tank usually causing overheating but the main reason it promotes low PH due to poor gas exchange at the surface.

Ok thank you for letting me know that. I was just seeing that a few lights instructions say they are for use above a class canopy. Wasn't sure.
