Intake sponge filter. Will that help?

Someone told me to get an intake sponge filter. Will that help? I ordered it and its on the way

Hi, I agree that is taking too long. Did you get an initial ammonia spike?

Also have you tested tap water - I assume no ammonia or nitrites there? And what is present water change and filter cleaning schedule? And are you dosing any meds? Sorry for all the questions, it's rather odd.
