Is My Skimmer Working?

How do I know if my protein skimmer is working or not? its a Octopus BH-1000 and it dosnt seem to be pushing a lot of water through it and there are a lot of bubbles coming out of the out-take. I am fairly sure I installed everything correctly I'm just wondering if this is normal skimmer behavior during the break in time. Also will it get quieter? It is rather loud right now and would be a bit disappointed if it was always going to be this loud.

Pictures don't really turn out. There are a ton of air bubbles coming out of the system is this normal or should there be less?
