In October last year I set up an Aqueon 36 gallon bowfront on a very sturdy tv stand intended for one of the old deep TVs from the 80's.

It appeared to fit perfectly and before setting it up we secured the swivel with several screws. With the aquarium in place everything seemed to be terrific and we checked to make sure it was level.

A couple of weeks later the glass door on the right side no longer opens easily. I am getting nervous.

Should I be?

Thank you,

Mary

8 is weight with water meaning 8 lbs per gallon so 8x36= 288 so I don't think those old TVs weighed 288 pounds lol is maybe reconsider

I'd say if the glass door isn't opening anymore the wood is starting to sag. You could remove the center shelf and put a vertical piece of 1x 8 or however deep the cabinet is in the center to help support the weight.

Yeah cuz if it does break your looking at one hell if a mess that much water can create mold rot the sub floor under the carpet and you don't want that lol

Soooooo embarrassing…

The glass door had been installed wrong. I fixed it. I also checked carefully for sagging, bowing, and used a level--everywhere. This is a very solid TV stand, we believe much stronger than many commercial aquarium stands.

My husband and I will be gambling on not having a 36 gallon flood for the time being. This is a very big gamble as it is on the second floor of our home.

That being said, we still plan to get a new stand some day soon.

And thanks again for your advice.

Mary
