Leveling a metal aquarium stand?

I plan on buying a metal 55g stand, what is the best way to level one?

if there are small kids around or animals I wouldn't trust a metal stand as they are unstable as it is if its on a rug it will be even less stable even if you level it , you could build a nicer stand out of 2x4s cheaper than what you paid for the metal stand , more sturdy and a lot safer IMO
I built this stand for my 90g for under $50.00
