I bought a 165 w Chinese black box for my 30 gal, it's around 7 pounds , anyone have any recommendations on how to hang thins bad boy

You could affix straight and curved lengths of metal conduit to your stand and suspend the fixture using wires.

I used a couple of molly bolts attached to the ceiling and a couple of equal lengths of chain and hang the fixture above the tank. Very easy and neat.
