I currently have two tanks:

10g with 15 watt bulb. 1.5wpg. My problem is I want to get an AH Supply kit to get it up to 2.6wpg. They recommend NOT having a hood with a plastic clear piece (whatever that's called), which mine does have. Do I need to buy a whole new hood or can that be replaced with glass or another material?

14g hexagon tank, 20+ year old hood and lighting, 8watt bulb. I pretty much need to get a new hood. Putting a high wattage bulb in such an old lighting element doesn't sound too smart. The best I can find will hold 2x13 watt bulbs. Would this even be enough light with such a deep tank? Again I'm stuck with trying to find one that is 12" and there are very few that I can find.

Thanks for the help.
