I went today to purchase florescent bulbs for my tanks. Both my tanks have the bulbs that came with the strips and I wanted to go ahead and replace them with new ones. This is more confusion than I thought it would be! I've got a real dumb questions what does T8, T10, T12 mean? What should I look for?

The T number is the size of the bulb width. T5s are the smallest (I think) and T12s are the largest. The bulb that you are replacing should have a T number on it. If it doesn't, just take the bulb with you to the lfs.

The T number refers to the number of eigths of an inch it is in diameter.

T8 = 8/8" or 1 inch ..

as for the one you should look for, one with the same diameter would be a good start :)
