My lfS advised that I add the RO/DI water directly to my 90 gal. tank and then mix salt for the initial set up. Then add the live sand by lowering the bags into the tank and releasing the sand into the mixed salt water . Is this cool or should I put the sand in first and then add water?

It's better to mix your salt water in a container with a power head for movement to make sure it's mixed good. I usually let mine mix for 24 hours. I would put the sand in first, then the water. It will still be cloudy for a while but not as bad as if you added sand after.

I have read that the cycle process takes a few weeks ( 8 ) or more and patience is the ticket. Just seemed odd to put the horse before the cart :hide:

Pour in the sand and take one of the empty bags and lay it on the sand and pour water onto the bag to reduce the amount of sand stirred up
