Mag Pump question

I am pieceing together my 210 gallon tank. I wanted to know if i was using a 1200gph overflow would a mag 12 from the refugium be ok to run with that or would i have to upgrade to a mag 18. It will be going up about 5 ft.

According to the specs a mag 12 will pump 1120 GPH at 5' and a mag 18 will do 1200. Be aware the larger mag pumps are noise and heat producers. I used a mag 12 to make SW in 44 gal trashcans. One would heat 40 gallons of 60 degree water to 80 overnight.

so would the mag 12 still be ok, also would anyone recommend a differant pump?

On a big tank like that, you could go with external pumps (Blue Line, etc). One of the LFS here in Orlando suggests that because they dont raise the temp in the tank.
