Magnum Canister to UV Sterlizer Light?

Anyone know if I could use my Magnum filter and hook it up to a UV sterilizer instead of getting a pump? I think they are the same sized hoses yeah?

The problem I see is with the flow rate. A UV filter needs a slow rate to be effective. If you split the return line with a valve on the UV side you could it. Of course this depends on the recommend flow rate for the UV and what your canister puts out.

Are UV Lights even effective? If so Im looking at Coralife & off brands, does it make a difference? Do you mean using Bio-Balls in my Magnum? No because I have enough Live Rock already.
