Mesh vs felt

So, I need new filter socks. I have been debating going mesh as I have heard they are easier to clean and keep their micron rating better then the felt socks. So if the micron rating is the same as a felt sock, would it make a difference? A 100 micron mesh sock should filter as good as a 100 micron felt sock right?
I currently have 100 micron felt socks and I need to get some new ones because hey are old and need replacing.
Anyone care to chime in?

I would assume so that the mesh size is the same.
