msr marathon 205 cermanic thingy.... i looked up up on the net and it was its supposed to be portable filtration

You need to learn how to google better jack ... a quick google search can get you this info:

it's a portable filter for drinking water, for hikers and the like. It looks to me like you drop the hose into your dirty water, set the filter in/over/on your drinking container and start operating the pump lever. You'll have drinkable water shortly thereafter.

okay, wonder why it came with an old aquarium. maybe the previous owner took his fish on hikes.
