New skimmer

Hi guys

Just wondering what's the break in period for a new skimmer being running 24 hrs now with no collection

It's a TMC V2 400

Thanks

Yeah just give it time. Just check the skimmer occasionally to see if it still has plenty of bubbles in the bottom. If not you will need to make some adjustments to the dials.

i've heard that rubbing skimmate from an old skimmer on the cup opening should help. the bubbles need a place to stick to as it flows up into the collection cup so a little adhesion what you're trying to build up and why there is a break in period

I've heard 2 weeks is a good break-in time

I think it will settle in. The long chain proteins left over from food and fish/coral poop will increase the surface tension enough to push bubbles into the collection cup. Most skimmers allow the cup to be raised or lowered to accommodate a "wet skim" or a "dry skim." I don't think a clean or dirty cup matters, but the bubble riser needs to be kept pretty spotless.
