Noisy hob overflow for wet dry filter

So I was wondering could you just put a bioball over the down tube to stop the gurgging noise? I read about the diy pipes to cut down the noise but would just placeing a bioball there do the same thing?

You could. I would tie a string or fishing line to it so you can retrieve it. Airline tubing might work. It works by channeling the water and allowing the air to escape.

I'd worry about debris building up and clogging the pipe. It's worth the 2-5 bucks to build yourself a mini durso or stockman. I've used both, and they work equally as well, but the durso has been less fiddly to keep quite (I've not touched it in 6 months.)
