Octopus BH-100SS HOB Skimmer

I recently purchased this skimmer to replace a worn out pro clear model. I did not get many instructions with it so I am hoping some of you have been using them and can help me out with a couple of questions.
1. The skimmer cup is extrmely hard to remove to empty. It seems to have a very tight fit, is there anything I can do about this?
2. The inake for the submerged pump has a large palstic cap on it with holes in it, is that suppose to face up or down?

Thanks for the help!

1- You can use silicone grease to lubricate the cup. It won't hurt anything.

2- Can you take a pic? Not sure exactly what you mean.

Thanks Capt. I will try the lube. I figure out the second point, it is the surface skimmer attachment. I now have it installed correctly.

Thanks again for the reply!!
