Overflow sediment build-up with standpipe?

I'm thinking of replacing my built-in wet/dry filter with a sump/fuge setup beneath my tank. Looking at standpipe designs, the first thing that came to mind is that with the higher water level in the overflow and the water being removed at a higher level than bottom, doesn't this lead to gunk, sediment and other buildup at the bottom of the overflow section?
 
In a word, yes.. and it's easy to pverlook (I think that's why they make them black!). Come to think of it, I'll be right back :)

Gravel vac works great.
