Penn Plax Cascade filter leaking

I have a cascade 1500 filter. The power went out the other day and it started leaking. I shut off both valves and it quit. Once power was restored, I turned it back on and opened the valves. It's work great with no leaking. I turn the pump off again, and it started leaking again. I cleaned the O ring where the canister and power head meet. Still leaks. When I say leak, I mean coffee size straw amount of water, stead flow. Not sure if it’s the O ring or not. Anyone have any ideas? This time of the year we loose power on occasions, and if we were not home at the time, this would have been very bad.

Sounds like an o-ring issue. Is the o-ring staying in place when you reassemble the filter? Did you check the seals to see if any part looks flat, crimped, stretched, or cut?
