Please help oase 600 filter

Can anbody help.
Hi I've just connected a oase 600 thermal biomaster canister filter, replacing the 350. After pumping prefilter 8 or 9 times. The canister wouldn't fill up enough to start up the pump or impeller. So please does anybody know what I'm probably doing wrong. This is doing my head in.

Ive found that canisters are much harder to prime if they are full of media. Try emptying the canister, priming it, and then putting your media in it.

My go to solution when i cant get a canister to prime is to just suck on the input hose to get water flowing through there before hooking it to the canister.
