Polishing Pads

Hi all,

I'm pretty new to canister filters. I purchased a Marineland 360 back in early March and had two questions.
1. How often should you rinse out the canister itself?
2. Does anyone use anything other than the Marineland Polishing pads in this canister and if so what do you all use?

I use a Fluval cannister.

I rinse out monthly, important to use water from the tank or dechlorinated water. Rinse out the course sponges and lightly rinse the biological media. I clean the impeller and impeller shaft and replace the polishing pads at the same time (sometimes i just rinse out the polishing pads rather than replacing depending on my mood).

Important not to do this same day as water change so as not to disrupt the beneficial bacteria too much.

Every 6 months i rinse out the hoses. Annually i replace the impeller, impeller shaft and O ring.

I would be interested to see how much maintenance other people do.
