How long should you leave them on for?

Mine is so noisy I cannot leave it on when we are in the lounge!!! Was thinking about putting it on a timer to run in the afternoon and then from about 11pm all night till about 8 am.

Any advice welcome

Any skimming is better than no skimming at all. Some people forego the whole issue. I would not recommend that, though. You could always manually regulate the simmer so when youre not in the lounge, you get extra skimming.

Most skimmers will quiet down over time. I don't think there's any harm running it fewer hours, but obviously more skimming is better. You could go to a smaller/quieter skimmer, move the skimmer to a sump, or baffle the noise somehow.

Can you tell what the sorce of the noise is? like the pump?

I would say that the source of the noise is the pump as it is a loud vibration.

I can her the gurgling of the bubbles, but that isnt too loud.

what kind of pump? replace it? dampen the noise?
