Reef Octopus Skimmer

Well I recieved my skimmer today and got it all ready to go. However i recieved with it(in the box) this black mesh type stuff. Its not very filter like as it has bigger holes. Does it go in the Sicce pump as a filter screen if i double it up... Anyone with an octo skimmer know about this material I have?

you talking about the 4 rings of sponge material?

Those go on the outlet tube to soften the water from splashing back in the sump. I don't use them personally, but that's what they're for.
