what's the best lighting for a refuge. or for growing macro algae

depends on the size... a lot of people get bulbs like these: http://www.naturallighting.com/store_front.cfm?&parent_id=52 and just use a socket with a clamp on it to hold it over the fuge.

I have used a variety of things. I have used a Flood Light from HD/Lowes and a silver bell like clamp and clipped on above the fuge. The chaeto exploded! It's cheap, but works.

I did the same thing as Rev. I got one of those 85w fluorescent bulbs inside of a flood light from the depot for $10. I put it one of those $5 clamp fixtures and have had great growth for $15. Been running it for about a year like this.
