risers on sump bottom

on the bottom of my sump in the right 2 sections there are 4 riser things.

what is the purpose of these?

i was thinking of getting rid of them so my skimmer can sit flat on the bottom

I have no idea but if I had to guess I would say they are there to help angle the flow upwards or simply to hold skimmers etc in place.. Either way they seem pointless, I'd get rid of them.

They're most likely there to raise the skimmer and return pump. Some skimmers work better at certain depths.
