Rocks

I'm putting together a 55 gal African Cichlid Tank. I don't have any fish yet. I have added about 60lbs of crushed coral and some rocks. My question is...Why can't I use some of the rocks with have around my area. They look just like River Rocks. They are pretty big and have rounded edges Some are flat perfect for building caves. If I boil them and soak them in salt, do you think they would be alright?
Thanx

Joe

There are Plenty of members that have used backyard / river stones. All the stones I have in my tank are from the neighborhood, and by where I work.

I inspect to ensure they don't have large fractures, bring them up to a boil, then after 10min, I let it cool back to room temp. I don't remove the rock from the boiling water.
