Rocks from hobby lobby: can I use them?

I recently got some black river rocks from hobby lobby to use in my aquarium. I’m a bit of a novice when it comes to taking care of fish, so I was wondering If I can actually use them? They don’t leave an oily film on the water and they aren’t scented, but just wanted to double check with anyone who might actually know what they are doing. It’s for my betta tank.

Sure, just wash them off first. You can even boil them for a bit if it makes you feel better.

Yeah, definitely DO NOT use these in your aquarium. I boiled them and black paint or something floated to the top.

If you want a shiny black, I believe Petco or PetSmart has aquarium safe decorative stones that would work.
