Hey everyone,

I have an Aqueon glass hood on top of my 40g breeder. With two HOB power filters running, I always get a small amount of salt buildup from water that’s comes out of the filter that comes on the glass. I’ve tried changing the water levels by a bit but it doesn’t help. I also get some salt buildup near the hinge every couple days too. Any way to prevent this, or any better recommendations on a hood?

Just remove the glass lids. You will get better gas exchange and more stable pH. If you really need something over the top, use egg crate...which is a light diffuser and is sold at Home Depot or Lowes. It comes in 2'x4' sheets.

You`ll have some water evaporation but all you have to do is add fresh water back in. I agree with Larry on removing the glass tops. Better gas exchange means better PH.
