I have a 75 gallon fish only tank that has been running for about 1 year. The skimmer seems to have went on strike. It is running and seems normal but has not produced any waste in a couple weeks. im gettin worried. I have tried several adjustments on the air intake with no results. please help

Hi,

Well Seaclones are not one of the best choices in skimmers out there, But there are a few DIY Mods you can doo to it to make it produce if you want to spend the time on it. Also if it is a year old your impeller could be shot and just is'nt working the pump correctly.

1. Get some molded gasket from a Plumbing supply or your local home depot and put it around the seal on the cup where it connects to the skimmer, This give it a more air tight fit.

2. Get a regular small air pump with some tubiing and a wooden air stone and run the tubiing and stone throught the cup and down the center shaft to the bottom of the skimmer and run it with the air on this will help create a more solid bubble content, the pumps dont seem to be very reliable on these systems and need a little extra push.

3. in the cup, if you have a dremal then cut the tube in the cup down about 3/4" to an 1" this will give the skimmet less travel space in the cup so it willreceive the waste instead of going back down into the skimmer.

These are some trick we have heard from our customers and have produced some OK results for this skimmer. For the money you could get a Remora hang on and get great results, but if you are going to stick with the seaclone then give some of these DIY tricks a try and see if you can give a kick to start working for ya again.
