SeaChem Matrix for Aquaclear 110?

Would it be a good idea to use Matrix in place of the bag of BioMax included?

On SeaChem's website, they say it is ideal for canister filters, so I have a feeling they wont perform to their full potential in an HOB. The last thing I want is to have reduced bacteria levels.

I want Matrix becuase of the anaerobic bacteria.

It absolutely is a great option. It is the best biomedia out there and as long as it is submerged it shouldn't matter whether it is in a HOB, canister, or even sump (although there may be some other options for biofiltration in a sump).
