I think my skimmer is on it's way out. It's a Seaclone that I've had for about five years. It's humming rather loudly. I have a 55 gal reef with 7 fish. What are your thoughts of the best hang on skimmer for the least $$$.

The pump is humming loudly right? I`m not familiar with that type skimmer but cant you just change the pump?

Don't let it die gracefully, smash it with a hammer.

Check out the Ocotpus line of skimmers, they do a great job and are affordable. When it comes to skimmers you get what you pay for. I would recommend getting a decent one. Check on ebay and craigslist for used equipment to save money.
