I bought an active sponge filter from angelsplus to try and cycle my 3 month old uncycled tank.

Question 1 - how far from the bottom of my tank do I mount the sponge? It has a magnet on the side to hold it in place.
Question 2 - how long does it typically take to remove the ammonia?
Question 3 - is there anything else special I need to do or just let it run its course and check the parameters daily?

I installed the sponge yesterday and ammonia reduced from 2.0 to 1.0 this AM. Nitrates increased from 5 to 10. No nitrites yet ( I have yet to see nitrites in my 3 months w the tank)
Ph is always 8.2

20 gallon high tank

Here's how I set up the sponge is this right?

I would put it right on the bottom. the flow of water through the filter will improve the closer to the bottom it is.

How long should it take to remove 2.0 ammonia?

Should I do any water changes?
