SUMP W/VENTURI SKIMMER

Just purchased a sump w/venturi skimmer and bio-balls from fish store going out of business. No instructions with it. Also rec'd pump for return to tank, overflow, 1 powerhead and Fluidized bed filter. All are working except the skimmer. I bought a wood airstone for it, and it doesnt appear to be working. There is a "nipple" on the skimmer about 1/2 way down, and some said this is for a power head... I cant see how it hooks up or works.. Any help would be great. Thanks!

What kind of skimmer is it? I have an Excalibur skimmer that sounds similar to the one that you have got. It has a Rio 800 on the bottom that is hooked to the inlet on the side of the skimmer. The Rio 800 is a venturi pump. I have an airline on it that is sticking out of the water. The pump pushes air through the skimmer along w/ tiny air bubbles that raise to the collector cup for removal. HTH!!
