Just bought this canister. The ceramic rings that came with it are in a mesh bag. Should I leave them in the bag or cut the bag and pour them in the try loose? Does it even make a difference? TIA

Should not make a difference. Either way is fine. Bagged might be easier come cleanup time (no chasing around loose media when rinsing the basket/tray).

Leaving it in the bag will make the filter easier to clean.
