Too small of a tank

I have two dalmatian mollies in a 5 gallon tank....the tank is clean and the fish are fed regularly. is the size of the tank an issue? I have read that mollies need to be kept in a 15+ tank. is that true? or is the 5 gallon tank ok?

I had 3 mollies in a 10G tank along with platys and tiger barbs (plus other small fish) My tank was way overstocked but I think 2 mollies could live in a 5G, I wouldn't do anything smaller than 10 though.
