is 440watts of vho lighting enought to grow sps? if not what type of corals would i be able to grow? i have a 55 gal tank 48x18x13. i also want your oppinions on vho lighting vs metal halide. thanks

You can grow soft corals in that light, but most stoneys would do better with more. Can you bump it up to 660?

VHO is more energy efficient and produces less heat than MH. MH is availble in higher wattages per square foot of hood.

I personally prefer VHO, but that's because I was raised by an energy engineer.

in a 55 gallon tank, that would be plenty of lighting for SPS corals. It is not a super deep tank and there will be plenty of light. I use VHO bulbs on my 55 and love the look of the lighting. It is a softer look. Not as crisp as MH, but definitely nice lighting.
